The
Enterprise class is the biggest dinghy racing fleet at PYC
.
The fleet is active all the year round sailing a couple of hours before
high tide on a Sunday, light and weather permitting. During the spring
and summer we also race on Saturday and Wednesday. The Sunday racing is divided into four series spring,
summer, autumn and frostbite, each series winner is presented, at the
annual dinner with cups that go back deep into the history of PYC. As
well as overall winners a personal handicap system is run within the
series encouraging the rear of the fleet to improve. In the last couple
of years we have experimented with a graduates/crews series. Graduates
being those recently or currently involved with the clubs sail training
program a source of crews and new blood in the Enterprise fleet.
The club is limited by storage space with 24 dinghies garaged
underneath the club building and a small space for the overflow on the
promenade. Efforts are made to keep boats sailing so turnouts are
high with the record in recent times being 19 and with 28
different helms sailing at least once in a recent series. This is one
design racing at its best and ambitious improving crews work their way
up through the fleet as they improve.
We have a keen and growing Laser fleet, with storage for
8 Lasers in the rear compound.
Members of the club are active participants in the Enterprise
association Severnside Series for the Dragon Trophy as well as sending a
sizable representation to the National championships.
Sailors from the PYC fleet have gained world and national
recognition.
